Block 1: Foundation for Data Science

This beginner-friendly module introduces learners to the core concepts, tools, and thinking skills needed to navigate the world of data. It covers the role of data in modern development, basic research methodology, data collection and management, spreadsheet skills, descriptive statistics, and interpretation of findings. Participants will explore practical digital data collection tools such as Google Forms, Kobo Toolbox, ODK, and SurveyCTO, and will gain hands-on experience with spreadsheet software to organize, clean, and analyze data. By the end of the module, learners will be equipped to understand and interpret data visualizations, perform simple analyses, and critically evaluate data-driven claims.
